Fibre to the Cabinet (FTTC/SoGEA/G.Fast) Broadband

With the advent of BT Openreach’s Fibre to the Cabinet VDSL2-based broadband products, super fast broadband with speeds of up to 80Mbps is now available to roughly 80% of the UK.

More recently, Openreach have launched “SoGEA” (Single-Order Generic Ethernet Access) which allows us to provide the FTTC broadband you are used to without any requirement to have an existing phone line. As we have never wanted to be in the space of providing phone services over copper phone lines, we now exclusively offer SoGEA for 40-80 Mbps VDSL products.

Like all our broadband products, our SoGEA packages have full, unfiltered Internet access and static IP addressing as standard.

All of our SoGEA products have the same £60 installation charge and a 12 month minimum term. If you migrate away to another SoGEA/FTTC provider using Openreach after your term ends, we won’t charge you a termination fee. If you need to simply cease service, there is a cease charge levied upon us which we have to charge you for – currently £12.44.

If you’re lucky, you might be able to access the new FTTC G.Fast products – offering theoretical maximum speeds of 330Mbps. Sadly, these are not yet available through us as Single-Order, and so a separate phone line service is required. Our prices below are inclusive of the phone line rental (which we supply call-barred).

All of our G.Fast products have the same £216 installation charge (including the required phone line), and a 12 month minimum term. If you migrate away after your term ends to another G.Fast provider using Openreach, we won’t charge you a termination fee. If you need to simply cease service, there is a cease charge levied upon us which we have to charge you for – currently £12.44.

A note about service speeds

Because of the way that FTTC works, speeds are dependent on your distance from the street cabinet, the overall quality of the line, how busy BT’s network is, and even the weather. As a result, while we can make an estimate ahead of your order, the actual download and upload sync speeds and throughput you will receive cannot be guaranteed, and are more likely than not to change during the lifetime of the line. If speeds substantially degrade, then we can request that BT investigate, but generally this requires that your sync speed roughly halves from what you have normally been receiving.

Any other provider delivering service using FTTC is subject to the same laws of physics (and laws of BT Openreach) as us; so if another provider isn’t giving you this information up front, or is claiming that they are unaffected by the laws of physics, be very suspicious of that and any other claim(s) they might make.
